MY MATERIAL
These are the tools I use and recommend. Find them at your local stores, or click to be led to the online listings.
Required
The repositionable tape is required for the “no tabs” paper doll experience! The paper you choose has to be thicker than regular paper but flexible enough to easily cut. Check my recommendations below.
Check the ‘Paper’ and ‘Repositionable Tape’ sections below.
Flexible
I encourage you to use any coloring method, from markers to watercolors and everything in between. Make sure you use the appropriate paper for it, and that the paper is thick enough to withstand use.
Let me know what you love to color with!
MARKERS
My pick is Ohuhu; Copic if you want to splurge and upgrade. I choose brush and fine tips for more detailed coloring.
PAPER
My pick is Strathmore Marker Paper for marker coloring. Choose any paper that fits the medium you’re using, and that’s thick enough to withstand multiple uses and being taped and removed from your doll, but not too think to cut in detail. Ideally around 50-60 lbs or 190-200 grams/m2 like the options I use below. Make sure you buy the size that fits your printer.
REPOSITIONABLE TAPE
Might also be marketed as Removable Tape. THIS ONE IS ESSENTIAL for the full experience of Paper Doll Society. Our ultra-modern method of making outfits cancels the floppy tabs of old paper dolls and uses this repositionable tape to play! It makes the whole difference! This is the only one I use and recommend. DON’T GET PERMANENT TAPE; IT WILL RUIN YOUR DOLL AND HER OUTFIT!
In any case, please test your double tape on scrap paper to make sure it’s easily removable without damage.
ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
I love supplementing my marker coloring with extra mediums. Here is what I like to use.
TOOLS & ORGANIZING
Extra tools for organization and to make outfit creation easier.
FOR YOUR ANALOG BAG
Skip the doom-scrolling and create new outfits for your paper doll on your trip! Just print the dolls and outfits you want to take beforehand, decide the color palette and take select colors in a small pouch! Easy peasy. Check out these super chic faux leather pouches I picked. So cute! Scissors should be airplane-safe if you’re flying but of course it’s always a good idea to check with your airline. Most of the suggested items come in different colors.
